2015 will be a year of decisions. Humankind is learning every day, and yet ever bigger and more destructive catastrophes are occurring around the world: Fukushima, Deep Water Horizon, Hurricane Katrina. Social crises in numerous countries bear additional risks. Solutions are not in sight. The energy turnaround is faltering, the gap between rich and poor is widening inexorably. This will be the subject of a lot of renegotiation in 2015 – at global conferences that will show the way forward. At the 2015 Dialogue Forums, Munich Re Foundation wants to discuss the challenges that lie ahead, with you and other notable experts.




You will find the registration dates in the agenda. Advance registrations by e-mail or telephone are not possible. Munich Re Foundation will not keep special allocations for certain groups, so all visitors will have the same opportunity to take part. Because of the strong demand, only registered guests can attend the various evenings.

2nd European climate change adaptation conference

The European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA) 2015 is the second of its kind, following the first ECCA held in Hamburg 2013 which was attended by more than 700 participants.

It is an initiative of a number of major European research projects and other stakeholders. The conference will cover a broad range of issues related to climate change adaptation and follows international adaptation conferences in Australia (Gold Coast, Queensland) in 2010 and in the United States (Tucson, Arizona) in 2012. This European conference will place a greater emphasis on understanding and assessing adaptation in action under the theme: Integrating climate adaptation action in science, policy, practice and business.

Openquake release event

The end of 2014 will leave a mark on GEM's history for the release of the OpenQuake platform, an innovative web-based risk assessment platform for modelling, viewing, exploring and managing earthquake risk worldwide. The open source software will allow professionals from various fields of work to combine different GEM products and obtain key outputs for risk assessment, risk management, scientific researches and much more. The platform, fed by continous contributions of users, will also plays as an interactive environment where sharing knowledge, results and resources from local to global.

Perugia, seminario 'Come prevenire incendi per asili nido e strutture turistico-ricettive'


«Nuove norme di prevenzione incendi per asili nido e strutture turistico-ricettive» è stato l'argomento del seminario di aggiornamento professionale organizzato dalla Direzione Regionale Umbria dei Vigili del Fuoco e il Comitato interprofessionale degli Ordini e Collegi dell’Area tecnica della regione Umbria. L'incontro si è svolto  la mattina di venerdì 3 ottobre al Centro congressi Giò a Perugia. L'occasione del seminario è stata utile anche per fare la conoscenza dei nuovi vertici del Corpo Nazionale dei vigili del Fuoco in Umbria, con il nuovo Direttore Regionale e i nuovi comandanti di Perugia e Terni.  Oltre 400 professionisti hanno preso parte all'evento i cui lavori sono stati introdotti da Raffaele Ruggiero, direttore regionale dell'Umbria, e Leonardo Banella, rappresentante del Comitato Interprofessionale tra gli ordini e i collegi di Perugia e Terni.

The climate symposium 2014

Satellite observations are a key element in an integrated and sustained climate observing system and have been critically important for monitoring and understanding the Earth’s climate system during the past several decades. The expected completion of the IPCC Fifth Assessment (AR5) in 2013-2014 makes it timely to discuss these achievements, to assess future opportunities and challenges with satellite derived climate information, and to provide guidance on future priorities.

Regional Forum Related to the Design of the Regional Multi-Hazard Early Warning System

UNISDR and WMO started in May 2012 the joint implementation of the project 'Building resilience to disasters in the Western Balkans and Turkey'. The project is supported by the European Commission DG Enlargement through the Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA). The beneficiaries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo (under UNSCR 1244) and Turkey. The project will end in October 2014. The overall objective of the Action is to strengthen the resilience of the IPA beneficiaries to disasters. 

4th International Conference on Building Resilience : ANDROID Disaster Resilience Network

The 4th International Conference on Building Resilience, Incorporating the 3rd Annual Conference of the ANDROID Disaster Resilience Network, explored the concept of resilience as a useful framework of analysis for how society can cope with the threat of hazards, helping to understand the attributes that enable physical, socio-cultural, politico-economic and natural systems to adapt, by resistance or changing in order to reach and maintain an acceptable level of functioning. The conference themes included: Resilience (Conceptual understanding of resilience, Overall systems resilience, Measurement of resilience),  Built environment, Communication, Disaster risk, Healthcare facilities, infrastructure and system resilience planning, Social resilience, Governance and  Education.

Final Steering Committee Meeting: Building Resilience to Disasters in the Western Balkans and Turkey
