Head of Technical Team - Disaster Risk Reduction, Food security and Livelihoods

Exciting opportunity to lead, manage and develop a technical advisory team in supporting the preparedness and resilience of vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The British Red Cross are looking for a Head of Technical Team - Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) / Food security and Livelihoods (FSL) based within our Technical and Advisory department of the International Division in London. The Technical & Advisory department manages the provision of thematic technical and advisory specialist services.



As Head of Technical Team (DRR / FSL) you will have knowledge of advisory support services specifically for delivering humanitarian assistance and building resilience. Additionally your experience within the international humanitarian sector and developing contexts, which includes management of programmes and staff, will enable you to ensure that the team deliver technical and advisory support, to programmes and partnerships. You will be responsible for liaising internally within the Movement and externally to ensure that the British Red Cross is a recognised leader in the thematic areas of DRR/FSL.

The ideal candidate will be educated to a postgraduate level, within a specialist technical field relevant to the assigned thematic area or within the broader field of management and partnerships. Your extensive experience will include:
• Leading and developing people including remote management of overseas-based teams and matrix management
• Building organisational partnerships and organisational capacity
• Budget management and funding proposal development
• Significant experience in successfully influencing decision makers
• Substantial experience of developing and managing technical expertise in a developing country context

Please note this role will require the ability to travel and to operate in a physically demanding working environment. The willingness to work out of office hours when necessary and in situations of political insecurity.
