Programme Manager, Insurance Leadership on Climate Risk

DATORE: University of Cambridge - LUOGO: United Kingdom - SCADENZA BANDO: 16 Jan 2015

What would it take for our economic system to respond to global risks such as climate change that we significantly step‐up action to build a low carbon, resilient economy? The insurance industry’s role in our economy, and its risk expertise, has the potential to make a significant contribution to this goal. This position is an exciting opportunity to join a small, dynamic team that works with senior insurance, business and government leaders, as well as academic experts, to unlock new leadership to help answer this important question.

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is looking for an exceptional individual to develop its work with insurance industry leaders via the international business platform weconvene, ClimateWise (www.cisl.cam.ac.uk/insurance). CISL has helped (re)insurers work with policymakers to advocate for robust approaches to managing the systemic risks arising from climate change from the city to global level, pioneer new underwriting practices to help accelerate deployment of clean energy and develop investment strategies that align their asset allocation more closely with a 2‐degree climate risk world. All of this is underpinned by ClimateWise members’ reporting against the ClimateWise Principles, the independent review of which sets the global benchmark for insurer leadership on climate change.

This role is situated in the Finance Sector cluster of the Business Platforms team. You will manage the design and delivery of ClimateWise’s programme. CISL would envisage the successful candidate having relevant experience in the management of global risks from business, policy, academic or advocacy perspectives. Most of all, you will be able to bridge between these worlds to drive leadership and change.

You will lead strategy development, manage projects and related events and develop strong relationships with senior business leaders, academic experts, policy makers and others. All of this will require close collaboration with CISL other finance sector business platforms in the banking and investment industries, as well as platforms focusing on the low carbon transformation and natural resource security.
