The Seismic Risk Management Initiative (SRMI) was developed to strengthen the relevant disaster management capabilities of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Tajikistan. National implementation teams, composed of AKDN agencies and affiliates, are responsible for carrying out SRMI activities in each of these priority countries. Their activities are guided by the SRMI Coordination Office headquartered in Dushanbe, and governed by the SRMI Steering Committee.

Community specialists: disaster preparedness and response - 3 Peace Corps Response Volunteers posts

Conservation International (CI) is requesting three (3) Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) to work as Community Specialists. Due to recent political unrest, Madagascar’s natural resources have been threatened by illegal logging and hunting, spurred primarily by foreign interests. PCRVs will work hand-in-hand with CI’s field teams to support communities to establish robust local governance systems that enable rural people to overcome these outside interests and conserve their resources and way of life.

IRC has traditionally focused on conflict, rather than 'natural' disasters, as the primary driver of displacement. Consequently, the agency has not systematically addressed Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) until now. However, given the changing world in which IRC operates and the multiplicity of challenges that its beneficiaries face, IRC recognizes DRR’s importance and the need for the agency to begin incorporating it into programming.
